“Entrez dans la dance” Exhibition 2009

by Art Critic and Historian of Art Edward Stills

Taos News (Taos, NM) USA - November 5, 2009

Gallery “Trait d’Ethique Paris - France

Scenes of paintings from Turlure’s new phase carry the sign of free, poetic imagination in painting. Those scenes are ruled by the euphoric atmosphere of lyrical feelings in which there are the tradition of “Ecole de Paris”

Tulure’s  emotionally imagination is turned to the bright side of the imaginary space from the edge of conscious and subconscious. He has neither a wish not a need to go down into dark depths of unconscious being. If we allow ourselves to judge, Turlure by unnecessary comparisons, we can say that his idols are not easy to find in “gothic” northern Brauner, Masson and Delvaux, than in work of mystical latin like Dali or Fassianos.

Jean-Luc Turlure accepted the challenge readily, the challenge met by a painter who dares to enter the magic space of visionary poetic imagination. He realized the basic rule for such kind of painting. The rule says that fictions scene seems convincing only if all the details that make up its completeness are presented in painting with emphasized exactness. Due to his rule, Turlure insists on convicting materialization of painted forms, on their precise position in space. Here we speak about really demanding style of “total” painting which is the common preoccupation of all the painters from poetically fictions family to which Jean-Luc TURLURE belongs too.

Dear Public! Dear Friends!

In this sunny Saturday afternoon, in the capitol of „Sandland”, in Mórahalom, we greet an artist from Paris.

I send Jean-Luc Turlure’s kind regards. The summer is hot, the colours are glow, but our fancy will be cheerful. It’s a big thing if a great artist fetch headway to the world: physically it’s a big effect to fix up an exhibition. This is an honorfic gesture; the extended arms. We have to extend our arms too and greet this french artist wholeheartedly. He is a free soul, a big colourist.

I cannot be too often asserted this assay, because we look to Paris not only from the literary world, but also the revolution of the impressionism condescend the whole modern painting.

I think, it doesn’t follow the „french style” or what they invoke: the fluency, a little bit piquant. I prefer see the versatility of Watteau Gilles’s clown and Paul Cezanne’s Pierrot. The fantastic performance sodden with the marks of surrealism. Turlure issued the prose; he use emblematic terms in paintings for example: Saman trophie, Le fuit De’fendes. The pictures show a mithic world, an ancient time in the modern life. The painter builds a fantastic world, make a reference to an other dimension, what we feel in meditation. That’s why the journey will be real. The legends help us (our soul) to travel in time.

The simple forms, the vital colours make memories of the senseless childhood, but it’s not quotitian!

If we are out of the first sight, let’s go closer to the paintings: there will be signs, scratched staves, tribal symbols, anciant signs. The surface is ancient too: in the backgrounds he use the message of the paleolitic culture, the racy of the soil stone and the fine graphic speaks the thousand years old visual culture.

I have to tell you: the heart is the only human motive, what means a false duplicity, a card gamble and an idol.

Here, in this paintings the heart is the most clear thing; exactly: the heart is overflow.

In the end, please, allow me to invoke Gyula Krúdy’s novel and open Jean-Luc Turlure’s exhibition.

„The bread and the crawfish has a different flawour. When the sun goes up, there are different ideas than ten years ago. Behind the balding trees, there is an other moon. The car, whereon we travel, is clacking, and the fancy shadows; the happy fellow-travellers; the singing migrants; the old, charitable host; strange town’s fresh and venerable women; and the old cities in the downhill, where we would spend our whole life – aren’t escort us.

Oh, where is the little invisible fiddler from our heart, who plays sleepless?... Somewhere we lost him, like in carnival-time, when the old musician loose his instrument in the matutinal fog.”

"Paris Artist Transforms Studio into his own PRIVATE ART GALLERY"
2007-05-13 until 2007-06-10
Jean- Luc TURLURE
Paris - France

Located on the South Side of Paris, Jean – Luc TURLURE, a Contemporary Artist / Expressionist, is currently presenting over one hundred paintings and works on paper for sale at his PRIVATE ART GALLERY. Jean – Luc TURLURE ‘s paintings are combinations of spontaneous inspiration, emotional freedom and daring color explorations. Jean – Luc TURLURE describes the creative process as "the art of transferring one's feelings from the palette onto the canvas." Early life on the East Coast USA brought the artist in contact with the verdant countryside and oceans, inasmuch as brine rolling foam and lusty breezes became ingrained within the confines of a truly sensitive spirit.

With bold colors and painterly brushstrokes, Jean – Luc TURLURE 's work possesses a passionate flair, even in his most serene compositions. His work displays the attention to intense colors and geometric shapes of Expressionism, while exuding the Romanticism and soft brushwork of Impressionism. Originally from France, Jean – Luc TURLURE studied Design drafting and drawing. Adding oil and acrylic painting to his list of talents, throughout the past twenty years he has exhibited his work in prominent Manhattan, Miami, Houston or Atlanta galleries and public spaces. Jean – Luc TURLURE currently lives and works in Paris.

«Jean - Luc TURLURE : Secular Icons of a Painter's Spiritual Search»

NoHo Gallery, in Chelsea, N.Y.C November 28 through November 30, 1996

Widely exhibited in both Denmark and the United States, Jean - Luc TURLURE has given himself a unique artistic project: to explore his belief in eternal life in the medium of painting. The female, seen as "the central figure in the process of life, as the stewardess of birth and creation," is the primary protagonist of TURLURE' paintings, featured in "Masters of the Imagination: The French Fine Art Exhibition," at Noho Gallery, 530 West 25th Street New York, in Chelsea, from November 28 to November 30. (Reception: from 6 to 8 PM.)

Working in acrylic on canvas, TURLURE depicts his female figures in a fantastic realist style comparable to the imaginatively distorted surrealism of Victor Brauner. Peculiar to TURLURE ' figures, however, are distinctive forms that project from their heads like tree-branches, antlers or antennae. These seem to be attributes of the spirit-world that TURLURE ' figures appear to inhabit and project a sense of supernatural energies that evade rational understanding. One can only imagine that TURLURE has arrived at some intuitive understanding of how these spirit beings would appear, which he makes surprisingly convincing by virtue of his artistic skill and conviction.

Other anatomical anomalies in TURLURE ' paintings are figures that morph below the shoulders into forms that resemble the roots of trees, as seen in "Woman Eclipsed," or that culminate in Baroque arabesques like the figures in "Flesh, Soul & Spirit." Despite their unusual attributes, however, we experience these female personages as palpable presences in TURLURE ' paintings, as specific portraits of imaginary beings rather than generalized depictions of anthropomorphic symbols or archetypes.

One of the most complex of Jean - Luc TURLURE ' recent acrylics on canvas is the large composition entitled "The Revelation of Women's Feelings." In this work, which resembles a kind of secular contemporary cousin of the Romanesque icon, the figures of several mysterious woman, submerged below the shoulders in a ring of clouds from which three upraised hands also protrude as though to hail them, are interspersed with seven representations of the cross. While one would not attempt to analyze this painting's specific meaning, it projects a powerful sense of something esoteric, just beyond understanding.

Indeed, one could spend many hours studying the paintings of Jean - Luc TURLURE, digesting their symbols, and attempting to decipher their esoteric meanings. However, it seems sufficient to take them at face value, as mysterious and ultimately unknowable manifestations of one man's search for truth transformed into objects of considerable aesthetic appeal.

«Mystical dream : Jean-Luc TURLURE» . 1995-05-20 until 1995-05-30

Sheraton Key Largo Resort and South Florida Center for the Arts

Key Largo, Fl - USA

Key Largo opens the season with an anthological exhibition entitled "Sound of Soul" of the well known Parisian artist Jean-Luc TURLURE. Opening at the Sheraton Key Largo Resort on the 20th of April at 5 pm with introduction by Gisele BOUQUET CAVINESS. Opening at the South Florida Center for the Arts on the 21st of April at 5 pm with introduction by Sabine RICHARD. It will be possible to visit the exhibition until the 30th of April, 1995 every day but on Thursday from 4 to 8 pm. During a period in which Art eludes every temptation of a stated definition shaping itself in a variety of theorization, Jean-Luc TURLURE discovers the human figures in every vanity and expectation. It is the man with his real life; in some ways TURLURE usually makes what the middle nineteenth century painters made when they included in their images the hottest social and urban themes of their times.
